Eventbrite charges a percentage plus a fixed amount on every ticket sold. On a €60 conference seat the fixed part is rounding. On an €8 community night you feel it — and community nights are most of what people actually run.
Do the arithmetic on your own ticket price
Take what you charge and what you sold last time. Work out the fee on one ticket, then divide it by the ticket price instead of reading the percentage they advertise. The cheaper your ticket, the bigger that number gets, because the fixed part never moves. That's the whole story, and it's why cheap tickets feel so expensive to sell.
And a free event should cost nothing at all
Most community events are free. Here a free event costs the organizer nothing — no listing fee, no charge per sign-up, no free tier that runs out at the wrong moment. Paid tickets are a flat 5% plus whatever your card processor takes, and nothing fixed per ticket.
