Following a calendar

Following a calendar keeps you up to date with everything an organizer or community puts on.

How to follow

Open the calendar page and select Follow. If you are not signed in, a sign-in prompt opens right there and the follow completes as soon as you are in.

You can also follow from an event page: the calendar the event belongs to is shown under Presented by, with a Follow button beside it. In the mobile apps, Follow is on the calendar page as well.

What you get

  • A notification when a new event is added to the calendar — sent once the organizer has finished setting it up, and only for events that are still ahead
  • The calendar's upcoming events in Following in your account, together with everything else you follow
  • The calendar on your Calendars page
  • Newsletters the organizer sends to followers

Following a calendar does not register you for any event — you still register for each one individually.

New-event notifications arrive as push notifications. In your notification settings you can switch to a daily digest — one message a day with every new event from what you follow — and turn newsletters from calendars you follow off. Your own calendar app

Next to Follow, the feed menu subscribes your calendar app to the calendar: Google Calendar, Apple Calendar / Outlook, or any reader that takes an RSS feed. A subscription keeps itself up to date as events are added or changed — unlike a downloaded .ics file, which is a one-time snapshot.

Memberships

Some calendars offer memberships — free or paid tiers with members-only events and tickets. Joining one makes you a follower too. Cancelling a membership keeps you following the calendar; unfollowing does not cancel a membership.

Unfollowing

Open the calendar page and select Following — it turns back to Follow, and the notifications from that calendar stop.

Finding calendars to follow

Browse the calendars directory, or the featured calendars on Discover. An event that belongs to a calendar names it on its page — when you register for one event of a series, that is the quickest way to follow the rest of it.
