Connecting with people

Cloomba has no search box for finding people. You connect with people you actually cross paths with — at an event, through a shared profile link, or face to face. It keeps conversations tied to real interactions instead of cold, unsolicited messages.

Three ways to start a chat

From an event. Tap someone's name or photo on an event — an organiser, a speaker, or a fellow guest — to open their profile, then tap Connect.

From a profile. Every profile at cloomba.com/u/username has a Connect button. Once you already have a conversation, the same button reads Chat and takes you straight to it.

By scanning their code. When you're together in person, open your profile QR code — from your profile or Messages — and have the other person scan it with a phone camera. You're connected instantly, with no request to accept. One code can be scanned by several people, so it works for a whole table at once.

You can display your own code on any device, including desktop web, but scanning someone else's needs a phone camera — there's no scanner built into the app.

Message requests

The first message to someone you're not yet connected with arrives as a request the other person can accept or decline. Until it's accepted, that's the only message you can send. Scanning a code in person skips this step — being face to face is already the introduction.

Why there's no people search

You can't look up strangers by name, and no one can drop you into a chat out of the blue. It's deliberate: it keeps spam and cold outreach off the platform, and it means a message almost always comes from someone you've genuinely met or share an event with.

Blocking

If you'd rather not hear from someone, block them from their profile. A blocked person can no longer message you or see your activity.
