Hashtags and categories on events
Categories help people find your event when they're browsing Cloomba. They're built on a single global pool of hashtags — short lowercase tags shared across all events on the platform.
Adding categories to your event
In the event editor, find the Categories section. Start typing a tag — the autocomplete suggests existing ones from the global pool, and you can type a brand-new tag if nothing fits.
Rules:
- Up to 3 categories per event
- Lowercase letters, digits, and
_only; 2–32 characters; must start with a letter (e.g.postgres,kids_friendly,ai_safety) - Pick the most specific tag that still describes your event —

Plain tags vs promoted categories
Every tag you add becomes a clickable chip on your event page. Tapping the chip opens a page listing all events with that tag.
A small subset of tags are promoted categories — curated by the Cloomba team and given a friendly title, an icon, and a color. Promoted categories also appear in the Browse by Category block on Discover, get their own rich landing page, and are subscribable (people can follow them and be notified of new events).
You can't promote your own tag — promotion is editorial. Pick tags that genuinely describe your event, and the right ones get promoted as the platform grows.
Comment hashtags
If you write #tag in a comment, Cloomba turns it into a link and adds the tag to the global pool if it didn't exist yet. Same character rules apply.
Categories vs calendars
Categories filter events by topic, across all organizers. Calendars are curated channels run by a specific organizer. They complement each other — see What are calendars on Cloomba?.
