Speakers:
Jan Wieremjewicz is a Senior Product Manager at Percona, leading the software products for PostgreSQL. He has vast experience in the development, deployment and maintenance of enterprise systems. Professionally, he is passionate about simple solutions that solve complicated problems and user experience that maximizes the product potential. Privately he is a foodie by day, a tech geek into graphic novels, video and board games by night and parent/spouse in between. He is known to have enough energy and topics to fill in any space and time given the opportunity, so tread carefully!

Michal Bartak has been working with databases since around 2000 and has focused entirely on PostgreSQL since 2010. Over the years, he has gained hands-on experience building performant, mission-critical software - experience that he has been able to pass on while leading database development teams.
He enjoys sharing practical insights on software architecture and programming, and helping others connect more closely with the PostgreSQL community.

Access Control in Practice by Michal Bartak

PostgreSQL provides a complete set of mechanisms for controlling access to data, but combining them into a practical access policy can have some more or less expected pitfalls. This talk touches on object privileges, PostgreSQL defaults, and how to cope with external connections (dblink and FDW). We’ll not forget about pg_hba.conf and PgBouncer as additional layers of access control. Finally, we’ll compare two approaches to implementing access policies: source-data-based and function-based.

PostgreSQL TDE took a decade. What now? by Jan Wieremjewicz :
It took about a decade to get a fully open source TDE solution for PostgreSQL, and we are still not quite done. TDE is still not part of PostgreSQL Community without additional server changes.
This talk is a practical update on where PostgreSQL TDE is today, why it matters, what still does not work well enough and what the possible paths forward are.
I recently heard that “there are no good TDE solutions for PostgreSQL.” Let’s challenge that, look at the remaining gaps and discuss what it would take for the community to get TDE to a good place.
