Detailed informations about speakers and talks:

Mayur is a DBA with 15 years of experience, started with Oracle but now Postgres is his "ikigai". Mayur is creator of pgscorecard.com, a PostgreSQL compatibility index, and a hobbyist extension developer. Additionally, pioneering the genre of "database comedy" to popularize Postgres with memes, see his work at drunkdba.medium.com.

Postgres Therapy Session: What the Elephant Can Learn from Its Rivals?

Postgres may rank #4 on DB-Engines and #1 in developers’ hearts, yet it's rivals flaunt enviable tricks such as Oracle’s RAC and DRCP (database resident connection pool), DB2’s adaptive compression, SQL Server’s Hekaton (in-memory OLTP), MongoDB's TTL indexes, and DuckDB’s direct object-storage querying, and more. We’ll show how these and many other features work, why they matter, and dig into the historical reasons Postgres didn’t adopt them. We’ll also test-drive a couple of prototype patches/extensions to gauge what’s realistically shippable.

Devrim Gündüz is a long-time PostgreSQL, Red Hat, Fedora contributor, and also working on some more open source projects. He is responsible for the PostgreSQL YUM and ZYPP repositories for RPM based distributions.

His career started as a system administrator, and now he is working as PostgreSQL expert at EnterpriseDB.

Extend your PostgreSQL: The world of PostgreSQL extensions

Extension concept is a big feature of PostgreSQL and users can add interesting capabilities to their database instances using them.

In this talk I will cover these topics:

  • How it started: "Contrib"
  • Introduction of extension concept
  • Challenges around extensions: Distribution and packaging
  • Developing an extension: Anything can happen?
  • Maintenance of existing extensions
  • Favourite extensions: Data from users
